Step Away From The Edge!

Do you ever restanding-on-a-cliff-1member visiting a place with a view overlooking a deep canyon? Well, if your anything like me, the first thing you wanted to do was look over the edge. Frightening as it may have appeared we seem to always want to get closer. Maybe it is just a little boy instinct, trying to be the one who can get the closest to the edge and not fall over. Then from the distance we hear our mothers voice screaming in a half panic, half drill sergeant tone “young man, step away from the edge…NOW”. Oh what a blessing it is to have a mothers voice in your life.

As adults I think we still have that “standing on the edge” instinct. Its called a sinful nature. Sin leads to death, just like the edge of the cliff leads to our fall. It is when we come to God that we hear that voice again bidding us to “step away from the edge, and move close to me”. This voice is the voice of our heavenly Father.

In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. (Acts 17:30 NIV)

There is a command from heaven to walk away from the edge of sin and walk to the safety of the Father. We all know that if you walk along the edge long enough, you will most certainly fall. The Bible states that the payment for sin is death (Rom 6:23). Repentance is our walking away from the edge.  Oh what a blessing it is to hear the voice of God in your life calling you away from sin. The Bible says that God is good.  His goodness is what calls or leads us on a path away from sinful living.

…the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance…
(Rom 2:4b KJV)

Repentance is not a one time event. It is, however, something that we need to do everyday. Repentance defined is our decision to choose the right path rather than the wrong path. Our sinful nature will always draw us toward the edge of the cliffs, we must turn around and choose to walk away from the edge. Temptation will come daily, so we must live a life of walking away form the edge. What you will find is that the farther you get from the dangers of the cliffs, the easier your walk in life becomes.

So my friends hear the call today and Step Away From The Edge!.
